Sustainability and futureproofing
Whether or not the climate emergency is a driver for you, it will undoubtedly become a driver for more and more of us in the coming years and it makes sense to futureproof your place.
Have you considered….?
· Insulation
· Heating and hot water
· An EV charger
· Being cyclist friendly
· Proximity to public transport
· Providing reusable items (picnic packaging, for example)
· Use of water
· Cleaning supplies
· Laundering
· Reducing meat and dairy
· Use of plastic (especially single use)
· Impact and location of your suppliers
· The sustainability of your furnishing choices (complicated a little by the need for fire safe labelling).
· Recycling and minimising waste.
Sustainable choices are likely to impact positively on your pocket as well as the environment.
Booking.com are (at least on a surface level…) making moves towards their ‘Travel Sustainable’ programme. The infographic above, suggests the direction of travel (pun intended!) is towards being more eco-minded, so it looks likely that other OTAs will go in a similar direction, and I’m inclined to think that’s a positive move.

Joanne shares so many helpful tips about eco-hosting, what’s worked, what hasn’t, and how making sustainable choices can actually make hosting easier (and more future-proof) in the long run.
